Available styles
Steamer--The traditional steamer is a full-length one-piece wetsuit with a standard back zipper. It's ideal for entry-level spearfishers and freedivers. Most steamers are lined on the inside so they're easy to slide into and they offer a good degree of warmth and protection.
Two-piece--A two-piece wetsuit has separate top and bottom pieces. They are really comfortable and provide extra warmth around the core where the top and bottom overlap.t just makes life more comfortable, convenient and hygienic.
Water temperature guide
The biggest factor may well be how long you actually dive for, the longer you dive the colder you will ultimately get.
As a rough guide these are the spearfishing wetsuit thickness you will need for different water temperatures:
* Rash Guard - 80° F and up.
* 1.5mm double lined wetsuit - 77° F to 80° F.
* 3mm open cell wetsuit - 71° F to 77° F.
* 5mm 2 piece wetsuit - 59° F to 71° F.
* 7mm 2 piece wetsuit - 45° F to 59° F.
* 9mm 2 piece wetsuit - 33° F to 45° F.
Open cell VS Closed cell
Closed cell wetsuit has an inner lining, usually made of nylon or polyester, between the neoprene and the skin. The main benefit of the inner lining is the wetsuit is easier to put on. The lining also contributes to the overall strength of the wetsuit.However they allow water to flow freely between your skin and the wetsuit, which reduces your body temperature, especially during longer spearfishing sessions.
Open cell wetsuit doesn't have such inner lining,This means the tiny air bubbles within the neoprene act as suction cups on your skin, creating a watertight seal that keeps you completely dry and warmer in the water.However you need to use some kind of lubricant or soapy spray to slide into them.It also can be prone to ripping.
